Dong Zi Ying was born in 1890. He studied xingyiquan with Master Liu Dian Chen (Also known as Liu Wen Hua), the second son of Liu Qi Lan.


He was appointed by the goverment, together with Master Han Mu Xia (Zhang Zhao Dong student), to teach several goverment personalities. Zhou En Lai, first premier of the People's Republic of China studied xingyiquan with Master Dong and Master Han.

Master Dong's specialty was the 12 animal forms, especially the Sparrowhawk and Swallow. His older brother, Dong Xiu Shen, was a Shanxi stylist. They mixed the Hebei and Shanxi animal forms, compared, and added different techniques and movements to the forms they already knew.


After several years of training, Master Dong went to Wu Tai Mountain to become a buddhist monk, and adopted the name Hong Hui Chan Shi. But, at liberation left to teach xingyiquan in Beijing. He used to travel to several places, to gather xingyi masters from all China. He taught in Beijing, Taijin and Shanghai, where he became good friends with Master Jiang Rong Qiao.

Because of that, Dong Zi Ying's Xingyiquan system places strong emphasis in the animals and has a large variety of them.

Master Dong Zi Ying celebrated the Chinese New Year inviting masters from all over the country, to compare styles and perform demonstrations. He was famous for his great internal strength, the speed of his hands and his use of Kong Jing (empty force).

Some of his students were Deng Fu Xing, Dong De Hai, Dong De Chuan, Wang Ru Zheng, Li Guo You, Wang Wan Xin and Tie Xie Li. Deng Fu Xing teaches in Dominican Republic, Wang Ru Zheng in Australia, and Li Gou You became a monk, living in Wu Tai Mountain to this day.
