Song Shi Rong was one of Li Neng Rang's top students. He was from Tai Gu, Shanxi province, where he owned a watch-shop.

He was a very thin and light man, but possesed awesome skill. He was flexible and soft, and very skilled in the twelve animals, specially the Snake. It was his favorite form, and he truly possesed its attributes.

He is often being seen as the complete opposite of Guo Yun Shen, representing the two poles of Li Neng Rang's Xingyiquan. While Guo Yun Shen emphasized the practice of the 5 elements, Song Shi Rong considered the twelve animals to be his specialty. While Guo Yun Shen was hard, and direct, Song Shi Rong was soft and relaxed.

He traveled a lot because of his business, and he was often challenged. He had the ability to send the opponent flying several feet away with a single blow; almost all his fights ended that way.

When master Li Cun Yi fled Beijing and went to Tai Gu, he spent several days practicing at Song Shi Rong's house with Song's nephew, Song Tie Ling. Li Cun Yi learned very much from Song Shi Rong, specially his training in the animal forms.

He was the founder of Song style xingyiquan. He had many students; between them, his son, Song Hu Chen and his nephew, Song Tie Lin, are the most famous. He also wrote a book called "The Classic of Internal Gongfu"

When he reached an old age, he retired to Wu Tai mountain in Shanxi province to become a monk. He never spoke about Xingyiquan again.

Master Song Shi Rong is considered one of China's martial treasures.
